Documenting Daily Life: Indoor Gardening Tips and More ✨
Good morning everyone! Today I decided it’s high time to document my daily life as a gardener. With a plethora of project videos piling up, I realized that some won’t be relevant, especially with winter projects, given that conditions vary so much. This might be particularly useful if you’re living in a different climate, like Argentina. So, I plan to share things that might work for us all!
Where I Work: A Peek into My Gardening Chaos
Let’s start with my workspace. It’s a bit chaotic at the moment. I recently bought a new dustpan since my old one broke. Organization is key in gardening, after all!
Current Projects
One of the main projects I’m excited about is my Guzmania bromeliad. A friend who has worked with plants informed me that this particular plant is semi-epiphytic. In other words, the substrate used for regular plants won’t work well for it. I’ve observed it growing in Colombia and other tropical regions, often high in tree canopies. My friend managed to recover one, and I’ll share photos of that along with my Anthurium, which also needs some care.
Experimenting with Tropical Plants
After a significant amount of rain, I decided to water my Anthurium. My approach for it is to use a mix of pine bark, expanded clay, and possibly some coconut fiber. I’m keen on seeing if this will help it recover better.
And look here! I have a gorgeous Heliconia. If you missed it from my Asian travel videos, it’s incredible! Unfortunately, it wasn’t well cared for in terms of substrate and orientation. However, I see potential, and I plan to pot it in an inert substrate, maybe with a bit of peat. The hope is to revive it as it’s already sprouting new growth.
Composting at Home ♻️
In my gardening journey, composting has become essential. I set up a composting area with kitchen scraps, like strawberry stems and pepper leftovers. I’ve created a small container to store organic waste, which I add to my compost every couple of days to keep odors at bay. I’ll share more details during the terrace tour video!
Orchid Care: Tips and Tricks
I received an orchid as a gift shortly after returning from Asia. It has been living in plastic for a few weeks but looks perfect! I’ve noticed its roots changing color—typically, they need to be green before watering. If you’d like, I can create a beginner’s guide for orchids!
Indoor Plant Projects and Lighting Ideas
Today’s big find was a massive vase, possibly the largest bouquet I’ve ever seen! I have prepared a video to share how I utilized the flowers from it. This vase could also double as an aquarium setup if desired.
I also set up my Christmas cactus, which has been transplanted successfully, and a delightful cutting from a large fern. It’s sprouting two new fronds. Each frond is essentially a leaf; isn’t nature amazing?
Vertical Gardening Solutions
Now, let’s talk about my vertical garden setup. For support, I’ve used simple nails to create a framework for my pothos. If I let it down, it almost reaches the floor! It’s incredible how it fills the space. This simple trick ensures the plants remain intact without damage.
Balcony Gardening Ideas
As spring approaches, I’m excited for new ventures! The paniculata flower, often used in floral arrangements, intrigued me since I had never seen it sold before. I planted it, and look at that! Buds are springing up, promising a vibrant display soon.
Final Thoughts and Upcoming Projects
That’s my whirlwind day in gardening! Should I continue this documentation? Let me know what you think! I shared a bit on practical examples today rather than just theory. I hope this inspires you with your indoor gardening tips and projects!
